When It Feels Like You’ve Failed
Sunday, January 27, 2019
1.Sometimes, we SPEAK too RASHLY (or do any of number of other wrong things.)
(Matthew 23:27-28; Ezekiel 13:10-11; Deuteronomy 25:1-2; James 1:19-20; Exodus 22:28; Colossians 4:6; Proverbs 10:19, 21:23; Psalm 141:3; 1 Corinthians 11:31)
2.When we mess up or say something inappropriate, it is best to acknowledge our ERROR.
(1 John 1:9; Hebrews 10:26; Matthew 5:23-24; Proverbs 16:18, 28:13; James 5:16)
3.Contemplating our mistakes can make us think we are FAILURES.
(1 John 3:20; John 17:4; Psalm 30:5b; Hebrews 4:16; Isaiah 43:18; Philippians 3:13-14; Galatians 2:20-22; Romans 8:1)
4.The Spirit’s abiding PRESENCE in me is a reassurance that this is going to be OK!
(Hebrews 13:5; Psalm 34:18; 1 Corinthians 3:16; John 14:16,16:13; Romans 8:9-11; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Corinthians 1:22)
5.Listen intently to His Word and allow Him to SPEAK into my situation.
(Proverbs 25:11; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 4:12; Isaiah 55:11; John 5:39, 6:63, 17:17; Luke 11:28; Matthew 4:4)
6.Recognize that He wants to ENCOURAGE me, not beat me down!
(1 Peter 5:5-7; Mark 4:35-41; Deuteronomy 31:6; John 10:10; Romans 8:31,37; Joshua 1:9; Psalm 37:24
7.No matter what I’ve done, God is not FINISHED with me.
(Romans 1:9-10; Philippians 1:6; Galatians 6:9; 1 Corinthians 15:58)
Taking it further to help you THRIVE…
1.Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
2.Paul addressed the high priest’s hypocrisy. When has your own hypocrisy (or someone else’s) tripped you up or caused a problem?
3.When we mess up, why can moving on be so difficult? What can we do to prevent ourselves from being crippled by regret?
4.Jesus told Paul to be encouraged / be of good cheer / be brave – there was more for him to do. How can we be brave when we know that difficulty is around the corner for us?
5.Jesus appeared to Paul and spoke the right thing at the right time when he was downtrodden. Share with the others a verse from God’s Word that He aptly spoke to your heart this week.
