1.Water Baptism is an ordinance of Jesus Christ by which those who have been saved by grace through faith express (by water immersion) their UNION with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection.
2.Baptism points back to Jesus’ finished work and signifies OUTWARDLY what has already taken place INWARDLY.
Who? (Acts 2:38; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:26-27)
3.BELIEVER’S Baptism: Baptism is only for those who have received Christ as Savior.
4.Baptism is symbolic, but it is MORE than ‘just’ a sign.
Why? (James 1:22; Matthew 28:19; Joshua 6; John 14:15; 1 John 2:4, 5:3)
5. Baptism is an act of OBEDIENCE to Christ!
(Why not?) (1 Corinthians 1:14-17; 1 John 1:9)
6.Baptism cannot SAVE you.
7.Baptism cannot CLEANSE you from sin or RELEASE you from sinful habits.
8. Water baptism is the NEXT STEP after salvation and the normal confession of salvation in the New Testament.
9. ANYWHERE there is WATER! (And preferably with brothers and sisters around you celebrating!)
How? (Matthew 28:19…Just memorize Matthew 28:19 🙂
10. We IMMERSE, and in the NAME of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Taking it further to help you THRIVE…
1.Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
2.Baptism is symbolic, but why should we consider it more than ‘just’ a sign?
3.Why do people wait to be baptized? Are there reasons we should wait? Should not wait?
4.What message does water baptism convey that words alone cannot?
5.Share the story of your own water baptism. (Have you been baptized as a believer? If not, would you consider taking this next step??)
