The gospel is carried to Samaria – and to King George and beyond.
1.The very place where DIVISION was the strongest is where the church GROWS most powerfully.
(2 Kings 17:24-41; Ezra 9:1-10:44; Nehemiah 13:23-28; John 4:1-26; Luke 10:25-37, 17:11-19)
2.We should think the BEST about those we dislike the MOST.
(Luke 9:52-56; Ephesians 2:14; Galatians 3:28; Matthew 5:43-48; 1 Corinthians 13:5-7)
3.We should not try to put the Holy Spirit into a BOX.
(1 Corinthians 12:3; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:3; Colossians 2:9,10; 2 Peter 1:3; Acts 2, 19; John 3:8)
4.We should desire and seek the FILLING and empowerment of the Holy Sprit.
(Acts 2:38; John 14,15; Ephesians 5:18)
5.As difficult as it can be to give (and receive), we sometimes have to SAY the TOUGH thing.
(Proverbs 27:6; 2 Timothy 2:24-25; Matthew 18:15-17; Galatians 6:1; 2 Thessalonians 3:15)
6.You can’t BUY God – His favor, blessings, or gifts.
(John 12:43; 1 Corinthians 12:11; Isaiah 55:1; Matthew 10:8)
7.No one can REPENT or PRAY FOR me – I must do this for myself.
(Matthew 12:34; Genesis 4:9; James 2:19; Matthew 7:22; John 6:53)
Taking it further to help you THRIVE…
1.Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
2.On Sunday, John said that the gospel can bring unity (as it brought unity between the Jews and Samaritans.) What does this mean? What role do we play in promoting a gospel that unifies?
3.In John 4:19 we read that the “Jews [had] no dealings with Samaritans.” What is the hardest kind of person for you to “have any dealings with”? Why is it challenging to think the best about those we dislike the most?
4.Peter strongly rebuked Simon when he offered money in exchange for the ability to participate in ministry. We may not offer money, but in what ways might we be guilty of trying to “bargain” with God?
5.“Believing” alone is not enough. What does saving faith look like, and how is it lived out?
