Embrace the Gift
(Acts 3:12-26, 4:4)
Sunday, November 19, 2017
1.Let’s be quick (and intentional) about making JESUS the FOCUS of attention.
(John 18:15-27; Matthew 26:58-75; John 21:15-17; Matthew 16:23, 26:52; Philippians 3:10; Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:10-12; Psalm 14:1-3; Jeremiah 9:23-24; 1 Corinthians 1:31)
2.May we be careful never to PREFER another over Jesus.
(Mark 10:45; John 17:4,5; Isaiah 52, 53; Matthew 27:15-26; John 18:38-40; Acts 19:32; Psalm 73:25)
3.We often act (react) in ignorance, but God FORGIVES.
(Luke 23:34; 1 John 5:12)
4.Religion doesn’t save. Jesus does, and He REMOVES the penalty of my sin.
(Romans 3:23, 6:23; Micah 7:19; Psalm 103:12)
5.A relationship with Jesus REFRESHES like nothing in this world can.
(Psalm 46:1, 61:3; Proverbs 18:10; 2 Corinthians 6:2; Revelation 21:4-5)
6.We must LISTEN to all God has to say to us. Hear.
(Deuteronomy 18:15,18-19 15; Luke 24:25; John 6:14, 7:40; John 1:21; John 17:5; Genesis 12:1-3)
Taking it further to help you THRIVE…
1. Talk about how you (intentionally) make Jesus the focus of attention and bring Him up in conversations. (If you tend to sometimes be corny or pushy, talk about that too – and how to avoid that 🙂
2. Describe a time when the enormity of one of God’s blessings captivated you. (Maybe, as we discussed on Sunday, it relates to forgiveness.) How did your outlook on life change as a result of this keen awareness?
3. There is an old hymn that has the line, “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done.” Why do we often take God’s gifts to us for granted? How can we change this?
4. In a world of so much noise, God tells us to listen to and heed His Word. What word has He been speaking to you recently that you are holding on to?
