Come And See

Come And See

Come And See

(John 1:35-51)
Sunday, September 22, 2019

1. Jesus doesn’t ask questions for HIS BENEFIT , but for the benefit of the one He ASKS!

(Matthew 6:27, 8:26, 14:31, 16:15, 20:32, 22:42; John 5:6, 6:67, 21:17)

2. Like Andrew: FIND someone – TELL someone – BRING someone to Jesus.

(Matthew 9:1-8; Luke 5:17-26; John 4:28-30; 6:8,9)

3. Jesus sees us not just for who we ARE now, but for who He will MAKE us.

(Philippians 1:6; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 8:28; Hebrews 13:21; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Matthew 4:18-20)

4. It’s about more than just a one-time ‘come and see’. Are we willing to truly FOLLOW and REMAIN in pursuit of Jesus?

(1 Corinthians 11:1,2; Matthew 4:19, 10:38, 16:24; 1 Peter 2:21; John 8:12, 10:27, 12:26; John 15)

5. Don’t downplay humble beginnings or discount what may appear INSIGNIFICANT.

(Isaiah 53:2,3; Zechariah 4:10; Haggai 2:3,4; 1 Samuel 16:7)

6. When we come and see, it becomes PERSONAL.

(John 4:29,42; John 9:25; Luke 19:1-10)

7. When we come and see, we discover that Jesus KNOWS MORE than we think or imagine!

(Mark 6:45-48; Ephesians 3:20; Matthew 12:25, 22:18; Luke 6:8; John 2:25; Acts 15:8)

8. When we come and see, the Holy Spirit moves in us and OPENS our EYES!

(Jeremiah 29:13; Genesis 28:12; 2 Kings 6:8-23; Psalm 119:18; Ephesians 1:18; Matthew 7:7-11)

Taking it further to help you THRIVE

1. Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

2. Note the different names/titles that refer to Jesus (or how He referred to Himself) in this week’s verses. What are the meanings / significance of each of these names/titles?

3. Why did Jesus change Simon’s name? (Do you think that name change meant as much to Simon then as it would later? Explain.) In what way(s) has God ‘changed your name’?

4. When John’s two disciples began to walk after Jesus, Jesus turned and saw them and asked,“What do you seek?” Of course, Jesus knew the answer to that question, but He was drawing these two to Himself. What ‘questions has God been asking’ you lately that you believe might be Him drawing you closer to Himself?

5. What is the difference between “come and see” and “follow me”? Which place do you believe you are right now in relationship to Jesus?

6. Because of popular opinion and common understanding, Nathanael doubted anything good could come from Nazareth. But he discovered otherwise. What changed his mind?
