Can I Get A Witness?

Can I Get A Witness?

Can I Get a Witness

John 5:30-47
(Jesus bring 4 witnesses to the stand to testify about Who He is.)
Sunday, January 12, 2020
1. May I realize that I can do NOTHING on my OWN.

(John 15:4-5; Php.4:13; Jeremiah 10:23; Philippians 2:13; Psalm 46:1-3; Nehemiah 8:10)

2. May I not SEEK my own WILL.

(Matthew 6:33, 26:39; John 4:34, 6:38; Psalm 143:10; Romans 12:1-2)

3. The religious leaders didn’t heed the testimony of John because the truth He proclaimed wasn’t what they WANTED to HEAR.

(Deuteronomy 19:15; Numbers 35:30; John 8:17; 2 Corinthians 13:1; Matthew 3:2; John 1:7,23-30; 2 Timothy 4:3)

4. The great works of Jesus not only reflected His identity but revealed His HEART.

(John 5:6, 11:35; Mark 6:34; Philippians 1:6; John 17:4, 19:28-30)

5. May we position ourselves where we can HEAR about God – and HEAR from God.

(Matthew 3:16-17, 17:5-6; John 12:28-29)

6. To have life, we MUST be WILLING to come to Jesus.

(John 6:35, 8:12, 10:9,11, 11:25-26, 14:6, 15:5)

7. May we seek the praise of GOD and not the praise of MAN.

(Galatians 1:10; Proverbs 29:25; Colossians 3:23; 1 Thessalonians 2:4; 2 Corinthians 5:9)

1. Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

2. Jesus said He can do nothing without the Father. Why do we often think (or act like) we can?

3. This quote was shared on Sunday: “We can put too high a priority on knowledge instead ofrelationship [with God through Christ.]” What happens when these 2 are not in harmony?

4. Isaiah 55:8-9 says ““For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” The religious leaders rejected Jesus (in part) because He was not who they were looking for in a Messiah. In what ways was He not who they were looking for? In what ways do we resist Jesus because He isn’t who or doesn’t do what we want or expect?

5. Jesus said that the religious leaders were (John 5:40) “not willing to come to [Him] that [they] may have life.” This doesn’t speak of knowledge or understanding, but of relationship and a surrendering of the will and pride. In what ways might clinging to your will and pride be preventing you from the fullness of life in Christ?

6. How does a desire for the praise of man over the praise of God get us into ‘trouble’?
